As the year begins with more changes for teachers, students and schools we wanted you to know that we’re here for you.

Last year we put in place lots of new ways to deliver our courses in the classroom or at home, either with technology or on paper so that no child is left behind.

We want to make sure that young people still get access to as much of the full Apps for Good experience as possible; solving real-world problems that matter to them, and meeting and sharing their ideas with industry experts from the likes of Spotify and LEGO. Everything we offer is entirely for free.

Standard courses

For those teachers who have already started or are planning to deliver our App Development Standard and Machine Learning Standard courses, these can be delivered in the classroom or remotely. They are chunked into hourly sessions to make it easier for teachers to set as weekly home lessons. All materials are available in Google Drive and as zip files in Microsoft file formats, and teamwork has been made optional.

Home Study Courses

We have adapted our App Development, App Design and Machine Learning courses to create a fun “at-home” course for students to work through at their own pace. Ideal for enrichment/extension activities and for students to work independently.

No access to wi-fi or computers? The App Design Home Study course can be printed off for students that can’t access online learning activities.

Students can get industry feedback remotely

The App Development and Machine Learning Standard courses now have the option for students to submit work for written feedback from our community of industry volunteers throughout the course using our new Expert Feedback Tool. Students can upload work whenever they have access to devices and the internet, and we’ll send you industry feedback to deepen their learning and improve their motivation.

Apps for Good Awards

Any student completing Home Study and Standard courses (in the classroom or at home) can enter the Apps for Good Awards, even if the course was started at school but finished at home. We want to see your ideas!

Remote Industry Workshops

Get in touch if you’re interested in one of our free remote workshops for students in-school. Led by our talented in-house facilitators, these day-long sessions get your students doing hands-on problem solving with technology and involve volunteers from our industry partners like BNY Mellon, Spotify and Lego. Email education@appsforgood.org for more info.

Coming soon…

We’ll keep updating this resource with more ways that we can support your students to get access to real-world technology education, including a video commentary for our Standard Courses and new content to help you deliver Apps for Good in the My Account section of the website.

Our team are always on hand to help you find the best way to adapt our courses to your class. Just get in touch at education@appsforgood.org.
