What is your product and who is it for?
Our app, Learn It, makes it easy for individuals of all ages to learn sign language without the limitations of resources and accessibility; children aged 13 and below are also able to access our app with parental consent.
What inspired your idea, and why is it important to you?
Our app was inspired by the lack of knowledge about sign language. While schools teach languages like German and Spanish, we believe it is crucial to promote languages that help people feel included and a part of society. We developed this app to overcome communication obstacles and assist others in mastering sign language in a simple yet enjoyable manner.
How does your product solve the problem?
We noticed an issue concerning the exclusion of sign language users. According to the UK Government statistics, there are about 151,000 BSL users, with 25,000 people using it as their primary language. Our app offers an effective and engaging learning strategy for sign language users. This way we can raise awareness about our community’s challenges.
How does it work?
Our app allows users to have fun at the same time as learning effectively. One of the features that sets our app apart is a personalised avatar. After playing games or completing tasks you earn points which can be used to discover new accessories for your avatar and unlock new activities. This makes our app appealing and engaging for kids as well.
