What is your product and who is it for?
Our app, Scrapp, is a recipe tool designed to help anybody who cooks to reduce food waste by giving recipes based on the leftovers they have.
What inspired your idea, and why is it important to you?
What really inspired our idea was the thought that food was being thrown away and wasted to the point where, if food waste was a country, it would be the third biggest emitter of greenhouse gas emissions. This is important to us as food waste could easily be used to feed many families in need, instead of contributing to large amounts of greenhouse gas emissions.
How does your product solve the problem?
Our product not only saves money by using otherwise wasted food, but also reduces greenhouse gas emissions by mitigating the amount of food that goes into landfill.
How does it work?
Users will input the scraps and leftovers they have into the recipe generator tool, which will provide recipe suggestions based on these inputs. We are still deciding on whether to use a pre-downloaded library or an API to search the web for recipes.
